Rights Clause Proposed In Pledge of Allegiance

Rep. James Fulston of Pennsylvania introduced a resolution to a "civil rights clause" to the Pledge of Allegiance, which would read as follows: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty, equality of opportunity and equal justice under law for all." From a New York Times article August 30, 1963.
